CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi meets Saturday with Abdullah Mohamed al-Sayadi, special envoy of Yemeni President at the Ittihadiya presidential palace, according to a presidential statement, Cairo Post reported May 23.Since September, political crisis in Yemen has worsened after the Iran-backed Houthis took over most of the country, forcing Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to flee the country in February.On March 26, several Arab countries launched Saudi-led airstrikes against the Houthis after reconciliation talks brokered by the Gulf Cooperation Council failed.Egypt participated in the military coalition by sending air and naval troops, particularly near Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a strategic maritime waterway for the Suez Canal as it connects between the Arab gulf and the Red Sea.The Egypt’s National Defense Council has decided on May 3 to extend sending Egyptian Special Task Forces to the strait, Red Sea and the Gulf region for more three months.
